The mission of the architectural competition Young Architect Award is to help students and young architects to find their place on the current architectural scene, to familiarise the wide public with contemporary architecture, and to attract the young generation to architecture studies. Last but not least, the competition will help chart the creative work of beginning architects.
We aim to
• give young architects an opportunity of drawing public attention to their work
• instigate a public debate on architecture
Topics
The topic of the coming annual round of the competition stems from the Architectural Policy, a draft proposed by the Czech Chamber of Architects. The focal point of the competition is public space of settled areas, urban or suburban, and society life influenced by it. With the presence of media partners and expert public, this project is supposed to instigate debate on architecture influencing and promoting a better society life.
1. city centre and suburbia (urban landscape, housing estates, satellite communities, new development)
2. city and water (river, riverside, lake, reservoir)

The assignment of each destination to each YAA 2011 prize will be made by the exper jury during its assessment session on August 25, 2011.
All works submitted will be displayed on the competition website where the public will vote for the best work in online polls until the announcement of results.
Media promotion
The project is promoted with a heavy media campaign in press and web portals of the trade, while the lay readers are addressed thanks to dedicated space in Architektura/Design section of the iDNES.cz portal. After the deadline for competition work submissions, readers will cast votes here in an online poll, electing e.g. the most interesting or, from the visitor's point of view, most audacious design which may become an inspiration and a trigger for a further debate or a subsequent elaboration into an actual project.
Young Architect Award 2011 nominees will be given space for a wider presentation of their work on iDNES.cz, eStav.cz and yaa.cz.
Travelling exhibition
The announcement of results will be followed by a travelling exhibit of all works submitted with these venues - National Technical Library (NTK) in Prague, FOR ARCH trade fair, Czech Technical University in Prague, Brno Technical University, Technical University of Liberec and VŠB-Technical University in Ostrava.
The exhibit in the National Technical Library (NTK) in Prague will be an accompanying event of the Crossroads of Architecture (Křižovatky architektury) conference taking place on September 15, 2011 at the same place. The conference's central topic is public space as well. The participants of this year's Crossroads of Architecture from the ranks of expert public will have a unique opportunity to compare the proposals and opinions from experts that will be presented in the programme with the visions and ideas of young upcoming generation of architects.
As part of our dialogue with the partner cities, we are also preparing exhibits that would take place in the exhibition spaces of the city in question, which would display works focusing on the given region.
